Stepptex will continue the quilting operations of the former Polyfill Produktions
October 6, 2025
By: Tara Olivo
Associate Editor at Nonwovens Industry
High-quality quilted composites for heat and cold protection applications, official uniforms, outdoor and sportswear, as well as mattresses and technical applications are the focus of the newly founded Stepptex Ges.m.b.H. in Absam, Tyrol, Austria. In a strategic partnership, Norafin Industries (Germany) GmbH, Mildenau, and Trans-Textil GmbH from Freilassing, Bavaria, are continuing the quilting operations of the former Polyfill Produktions GmbH. The new quilting company began production on August 18, 2025. Stepptex Ges.m.b.H. is continuing operations at the new site with its proven team in Absam and is further developing the company. This means that SteppTEX has decades of expertise and extensive experience in the manufacture of highly specialized quilted composites at its disposal. In addition, both Norafin and Trans-Textil are very familiar with the local structures thanks to their many years of cooperation with the predecessor company Polyfill. The joint venture will maintain regional supply chains on the one hand, while also retaining and securing textile expertise in the region on the other. In addition to its own products, Stepptex Ges.m.bH. primarily wants to expand its range of superior contract manufacturing services. This allows customers to provide their own materials for the production of customized composites, draw on the resources of its partners, and use not only their own designs but also the extensive portfolio of over 1000 in-house quilting patterns. One of SteppTEX’s specialities is the implementation of heat protection composites with the appropriate flame-retardant special yarns. Here, too, the partners complement each other: Norafin uses its spunlace and needlepunch technology to produce high-quality, inherently flame-retardant special nonwovens for use in protective clothing, while Trans-Textil is expanding its portfolio of membrane laminates and seam sealing tapes to include corresponding insulation linings and offers essential components for firefighting clothing from a single source with maximum flexibility. SteppTEX’s strengths lie primarily in areas where individuality, speed, and genuine regional supply chains are in demand, even for small and medium batch sizes. In addition to proven products, the Absam-based company is already working on innovative solutions for heat and cold protection, official clothing, defense, high-quality outdoor products and technical applications.
